Microsoft Outlook, everyone’s favorite email client, keeps emails, tasks, calendars, contacts up-to-date. It is done using an OST or offline folder file or offline Outlook Data file (.ost). OST saves the files offline and then connects them to Microsoft Exchange Server when an internet connection is provided. It, in turn, updates the file and can be fetched anytime and from anywhere. It is not restricted to just a single computer.

Manual Steps to Recreate OST file

In Microsoft Outlook 2016, 2013, and 2010

Launch Microsoft Outlook.
Go to the File menu.
Now press the Info button and then click on Account Settings.
Now press the Email tab and then click on Microsoft Exchange.
Next, click on the More Settings button.
Now press the Advance tab and click on Offline Folder File Setting(Offline Data File Setting for Outlook 2013).
Browse a location and save the .ost file in that location. The file is named Outlook.ost by default.
If the path is not found, create one click on the OK button and press Finish.

In Microsoft Outlook 2007

Launch Microsoft Outlook.
Go to the Tools and then click on Account Settings.
Now press the Email tab and then click on Microsoft Exchange.
Next, click on the More Settings button.
Now press the Advance tab and then click on Offline Folder File Setting.
Browse a location and save the .ost file in that location. The file is named Outlook.ost by default.
If the path is not found, create one, click on the OK button, and press Finish.

In this way, we can recreate the OST file.
