How to Fix the Outlook Synchronization Log Issue?

MS Outlook is the leading software application worldwide that provides email services. It is managed by Microsoft and offers the facility of cloud access and storage in the email accounts. It stores the email mailbox data in two formats, i.e., OST and PST. Although both these formats contain the same data, the primary difference in these formats is that OST is stored for offline usage while PST can be viewed on any device through the exchange server.

The MS Outlook generates Synchronization Log files due to the connectivity issue between the local cache file (OST) with the Exchange Server. These files are stored in the Sync Issues folder under different categories. The Synchronization log issue is a common issue nowadays that a large number of users face.

Mainly, these Outlook Synchronization log emails are generated due to connectivity problems. Let us go through some reasons that give rise to the synchronization log issue.

What Causes Sync Issues in Outlook?

  • Corruption in the local cache files (OST) may give an error in the synchronization logs.
  • The transfer of mails from one device to another and especially to a mobile device. The sync takes place at different durations that create the synchronization log issue.
  • Due to the server failure, the connectivity breaks from the exchange server that causes the Microsoft Outlook synchronization log problem.

The above reasons make it difficult for Outlook to synchronize the emails thoroughly and creates synchronization log issues. The log files stored in Outlook are categorized into three different folders based on their synchronization issues. These folders are described below.

Different Synchronization Log Issue Folders

The Office 365 Synchronization Log Files are stored in the MS Outlook itself. They are located under the below-mentioned folders.

  • Sync Issues

It is the main folder in which all the synchronization log files are stored. You can find this folder adjacent to all the folders that are present in Outlook. It contains all the log files that Outlook creates due to any possible reason.

  • Conflicts

It contains all the items that occur multiple times or are conflicting with the original items. An InfoBar at the top of the primary email would show the notice regarding the conflicting items, and you would have the option to choose all multiple logs you want to keep.

  • Local Failures

The Local Failures Folder contains all the items that could not be uploaded or sent to the server. If you apply any changes to these items, they will not be displayed on any other device or computer.

  • Server Failures

Connectivity issues send the emails to this folder. When Outlook fails to synchronize the items with the server, they appear here. You can access this folder only when you have a working internet connection.

Now, as we have understood the different synchronization log issues and where to find the log items. Let us get to know how we can know if the log settings are synchronized or not. The below steps will help you to check the synchronization settings in MS Outlook.

Check the Synchronization Settings

You can check the proper synchronization through the below-mentioned steps.

Step 1: In MS Outlook, right-click on the folder that you wish to verify.

Step 2: Click on Properties to open the Draft Properties tab.

Step 3: Now, choose the Synchronization option from the top, and verify the settings, i.e. Last Synchronized On, Server Folder, Offline Folder.

In the settings, you have to verify that the Server folder and the Offline folder contain the same number of items. If not, you can fix the synchronization log issue by the below steps.
