Resolved Error – Cannot Open Your Default Email Folders Outlook 2010

MS Outlook 2010 clients can’t connect and getting the error “Cannot open your default e-mail folders The information store could not be opened.” Therefore you could to connect to Exchange Server with current profile after that synchronized your folder with Outlook offline storage file (.ost).

The Error Cannot Open Your Default Email Folders Occurs Due to Two Reasons

• Your running Outlook profile in “Compatibility Mode”. or
• Your OST (Offline Storage Table) file becomes corrupted.

Mainly this error occurs when the Outlook is operating in the compatibility mode.

Remove Compatibility Mode of Outlook

In case, your Outlook is running in compatibility mode then change it. For this follow the following steps:

1. Tap the Windows Key + R then type the following command and press Enter:
   For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\
   For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\
2. Double click on the folder Office16 (you can write the version of your office version like office 12 etc.).
3. Now open Program Files >> Microsoft Office >> Office12.
   
4. Then right-click on Office12 and click on Properties.
5. Go to Compatibility tab and unmark “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and click on OK.
   
6. Run the Outlook again, check if the error is resolved or not.

Remove and Reset the Navigation Pane for the Current Profile

Important: In this method, all Shortcuts and Favorite Folders will be removed.
1. Hit Windows Key + R then write the following command and press the Enter:
Outlook.exe/resetnavpane

Recover the Outlook data file (.ost)

1. Go to the following directory:
   For 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12
   For 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
   Office12 is used in case of Office 2012 version.
2. Search and double-click on Scanost.exe and open the application.
3. Click on Ok on the next window then choose the option you want and click on the Begin Scan. Ensure to check “Repair errors.”

Clean Corrupted Profiles

1. Open the Control Panel then type Mail in the search box. And click on the Mail (32-bit).
2. Next, click on the Show Profiles button.
   
3. Choose all the old profiles and click on Remove tab.
   
4. At last click on OK and reboot your system to save the changes.
