The Portable Document Format or PDF is a file format developed by Adobe Systems during the 1990s to present and exchange documents reliably, which includes text formatting and images. The biggest advantage of using a PDF file is that for opening a document you don’t require a special hardware, operating system or the software used for creating the document. Wherever you open a PDF, the layout of the document remains the same. Initially, it was a proprietary format controlled by Adobe Systems. However, in 2008 it was released as an open standard and published by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 32000-1:2008. You can easily view PDF files on Windows or Mac OS using the Acrobat Reader DC software.

Despite the many advantages, managing and handling PDF files can pose a challenge sometimes. In case the file size is too large it may take a lot of time while opening it in Adobe Reader. At the same time, if you have a large number of PDF files on your system, there is a possibility of files being misplaced or lost. In either of the above situations, you can split and merge PDF files to tackle file management issues.

  • Managing a large number of PDF files can become a cumbersome task as they are prone to be misplaced or lost due to accidental deletion. In such a case, you can merge multiple PDF files into one. It will save your PDF files from getting deleted or misplaced.
