We're replacing Google Workspace with Microsoft 365 and need to migrate nearly 5 TB of data from Google Drive to SharePoint Online. Our biggest concern is maintaining folder hierarchy, user permissions, and business continuity during the migration. What approach would you recommend?

Many companies switch from Google Drive to SharePoint Online when they are migrating from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. Google Drive offers cloud storage with better collaboration features. SharePoint, on the other hand, represents the best solution for fully fledged business collaboration and document management. So here is the main reasoning why organizations move to SharePoint Online from Google Drive.
Access and permissions in SharePoint are different from those in Google Drive, so they require extra attention post-migration.
SharePoint uses libraries and metadata. Google Drive utilizes a folder-based structure. Mapping these can be time-consuming.
Large volumes of data may take more time and bandwidth to migrate.
Duplicate documents take more storage and create confusion when accessing files in SharePoint Online.
SharePoint has limits on file sizes. Larger files may need special attention during migration.
Assess the data stored in Google Drive, including personal drives, shared drives, and shared folders. Identify the total data size, number of files, and any duplicate content that may not need to be migrated.
Always create a backup of Google Drive data before migration to protect against unexpected issues during the transfer.
Create SharePoint sites, document libraries, and folder structures in advance. Planning the destination environment helps organize data efficiently after migration.
Verify that your Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online environment has sufficient storage available to store all migrated data.
Test the migration with a small set of users to identify potential issues and validate the migration process before migrating all data.
A 350-person consulting practice had adopted the Microsoft 365 ecosystem and wanted to consolidate 3TB of data from Google Drive into SharePoint Online. We were tasked with a Google Workspace migration that also covered Shared Drives, business files, and individual files. The Aryson Google Workspace Migration Tool migrated data while retaining folders, metadata, and permissions. The migration was executed within a maintenance window to minimize business disruption for the consultants.
A successful transition from Google Drive to SharePoint Online requires careful planning, the right migration strategy, and thorough validation after the transfer. Although the manual method can work for small data volumes, it may not be practical for organizations managing multiple users or large amounts of business data.
The Aryson Google Workplace Migration Tool can securely and effectively migrate from Google Drive to SharePoint Online, maintaining folder structure, permission levels, and document attributes. With the right solution for your enterprise and by following best practices, your enterprise could get the fastest performance with less downtime and prevent data integrity issues.

Can I skip the Shared With Me section from the export?
Ans. There is a Skip Drive section filter in the Aryson Google Workspace Migration tool, with four options: My Drive, Shared With Me, Shared Drive, and Trash. You can select any one of the following and exclude it from migrating.
What is the use of the minimum file size filter?
Ans. The filter can be used to set a limit so that files smaller than that limit will be skipped during migration. You can enter a number and select MB or GB. That will be the minimum file size limit, and files smaller than that will be skipped during migration.
Is there a filter to migrate only a specific type of file?
Ans. There is a file type filter that can be used to migrate specific file types. After enabling the filter, you can enter a file type and add it or use one of the four given types, i.e., docs, sheets, slides, or forms.
How can I skip duplicate items from migration?
Ans. The Skip Duplicate filter can be used to detect and skip duplicate items from migration based on metadata fields such as name, size, modified, and checksum.
How do I use the Resume Migration filter?
Ans. If your previous migration had failed items and you want to migrate those also, you can enable the Skip Previously Migrated Items filter. This will skip the files that were successfully migrated and will export only the failed items.
Does the Aryson Google Workspace Migration tool support bulk migration?
Ans. Yes, you can upload a CSV file that contains multiple Google Workspace user accounts and migrate them at once, saving time and effort.
What are the restrictions on Google Drive migration in the trial version?
Ans. The trial version can migrate Google Drive files up to 20 MB per file. Files larger than that are skipped from the migration.
How can I free up storage space in my Microsoft 365 mailbox after taking a backup?
Ans. The Free Up Server Space feature allows you to remove emails from your Microsoft 365 mailbox after they have been successfully backed up. This helps reduce mailbox storage usage while keeping a secure copy of your data on your local system or chosen backup location.
